Wow!
Yesterday turned out to be a great Tuesday. My pal Pat (who is an amazing one of kind doll artist) connected me with her pal Adam who had an extra pair of tickets to last night's Tori show in Wallingford, CT. It was kismet in action! As it turns out, Adam's first Tori show was my first show, June 11, 1994 at the Orpheum in Boston. We soon discovered that we have been to almost the same number of shows (35ish), many of the same ones even. He was even in line staying up all night outside in the cold in 1998 in line for the club tour! He was #68 in line. I believe we were closer, but I will have to consult my journals (any memory K2?).
In any event, we got to see Isabel again, which was great, but admittedly husbando and I were a bit disappointed that we didn't get to see another doll. That said, she and Tori were on FIRE! The set list:
Act I – Isabel
* Yo George
* Sweet Dreams
* Almost Rosey
* Devils and Gods
* Tombigbee
* Scarlet’s Walk
Interlude
* Professional Widow
Act II – Tori
* Big Wheel
* Space Dog
* a sorta fairytale
* Cornflake Girl
* Doughnut Song
* Siren
T & Bö
* Mother
* “Little Girl” improv (though I think this is more evolved than an improv myself)
* Mary
* Let It Be
Band Returns
* Lust
* God
* Code Red
First Encore
* Precious Things
* Taxi Ride
Second Encore
* Bouncing Off Clouds
* Hey Jupiter
Isabel was much more intense tonight. Almost Rosey and Scarlet's Walk were highlights, and the piano into to Devils and Gods was exquisite. She was so intense during her set that it took me a few moments to transition to Tori whose playing last night was full of joy.
There is something that is always special about Wallingford shows, almost everyone I talked to agrees. There were many high points for me in the main set last night. Doughnut Song is not one that I would choose to hear, but it was beautifully played. Siren was unrecognizable at first, the play between Tori and the band was particularly on during this number.
Tori's solo time was astonishing. Mother was the best version I have ever heard, hands down (and it was played at Pat's request! Go Pat!). Mary is one of my favorites and I am always glad to hear it. Let It Be was really something special. It seemed to me like it may have been a last minute addition. Tori tends to always do a Beatles song when she is there.
The band returned to an incredible version of Lust, which is a song I prefer live over the record and it was a lovely drawn out version with a fantastic underbelly by the amazing Jon Evans on bass.
The encores were pretty standard, though Taxi Ride has a special place in my Tori loving heart!
She was again wearing her Lite-Brite jumpsuit which really suits the lighting design of the show.
It was great to see her again and she did indeed confirm to people at the meet and greet beforehand that it will be a long time before she tours again. She is working on a musical with some folks in London and said that now that her daughter is getting older, it's harder to pull her away from her activities at home.
This was our Posse Bonus.

I love you, J!!!! Since Wallingford is where we first met, it was perfect! 'The Little Girl Improv' was weird because we talked to Tori about Tash, my Skye and Layla and family. As you know she said that the long break before touring again is true.
Did Steve that was with us take that pic? You probably know youtube has some stuff up from the show.
I forgot to tell you that my son-in-law has a chance of editing the Grey Gardens film! I hope not since it involves being in LA for a while.

Thanks for the review! I agree I would be disappointed not to see two different dolls in two shows, but I guess that's how it goes! I'll be seeing Tori in Denver, Salt Lake City, and Phoenix so I'm still waiting. In the meantime I'm getting excited reading reviews, checking YouTube, and downloading Boots & Legs! :)
